On October 29, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) visited Chang Gung University (CGU) in Taiwan, China, for a meeting and signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU). The partnership aims to strengthen medical education and give HUTECH students more opportunities to learn and gain exposure to healthcare in an international setting.

During the visit, Dr. Kieu Xuan Hung, Chairman of the University Board of Directors, signed the MoU on behalf of HUTECH. The agreement provides a framework for the two universities to strengthen academic ties, build on their respective strengths in medical education, and develop joint activities that offer practical learning opportunities for medical students.

During the meeting, the two universities shared their experience in developing medical curricula aligned with the standards of the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). They discussed curriculum design, integrated teaching, simulation-based training, how to define and measure learning outcomes, and methods for assessing student performance. HUTECH will draw on these discussions as it continues to refine its medical curriculum, with an emphasis on developing students’ medical knowledge and practical skills.

The two universities also explored inviting CGU faculty to teach and share their expertise with HUTECH medical students, either in person or online. These sessions would give students access to specialized knowledge and introduce them to teaching approaches and academic perspectives from another medical school.

Another proposal was a short-term study program at CGU that would include clinical shadowing at a hospital. Through shadowing, students would see how healthcare professionals carry out their daily work, care for patients, and coordinate as a team. This firsthand exposure would help students better understand clinical practice and the responsibilities of healthcare professionals.

Beyond medical education, HUTECH and CGU explored opportunities for joint research and closer collaboration between universities and healthcare institutions. These efforts would help connect research and teaching with day-to-day healthcare practice.
