HUTECH meets with leaders of Santiago de Cuba Province to expand educational connections in Latin America

On September 9, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) held a meeting with a delegation of leaders from Santiago de Cuba Province, Republic of Cuba, to discuss potential cooperation in education, languages, medicine, and student exchange programs, with the aim of expanding the University’s partnership network in Latin America.

Welcoming the delegation from Santiago de Cuba Province and representatives of the Consulate General of Cuba in Ho Chi Minh City, Dr. Ly Thien Trang expressed her appreciation for the longstanding friendship between Vietnam and Cuba. She also expressed her hope that education would continue to serve as a meaningful bridge for fostering exchanges and strengthening connections between the younger generations of the two countries.

In this spirit, both sides discussed the role of education in further strengthening Vietnam-Cuba relations. The delegation shared information about the Vietnam-Cuba Primary School in Santiago de Cuba, which will welcome its first students in the 2026-2027 academic year, as well as plans to gradually expand to additional levels of education in the coming years. The initiative is expected to provide more opportunities for younger generations to learn about the culture, country, and people of both nations, carrying forward a friendship that has been nurtured over generations.
Building on this educational foundation, the discussion expanded to cooperation at the higher education level. HUTECH expressed its interest in establishing connections with suitable universities, research institutes, and educational institutions through the Consulate General of Cuba in Ho Chi Minh City and the government of Santiago de Cuba Province. Cuba is expected to serve as an important bridge for HUTECH as the University gradually develops its network of academic partnerships across Latin America.
Both sides discuss potential cooperation in education, foreign languages, medicine, and academic connections with Cuba
Both sides also explored the possibility of offering Spanish language courses, which would broaden foreign language learning opportunities for students and provide a stronger foundation for academic exchanges and engagement with partners in Cuba and other Spanish-speaking countries.
Another area of potential cooperation discussed was medicine and healthcare, fields in which Cuba has extensive expertise and experience. HUTECH expressed its interest in connecting the HUTECH School of Medicine and Health Sciences with suitable universities, educational institutions, and professional organizations in Cuba, with a view to promoting academic and professional exchanges, faculty and student mobility, scientific research, and short-term training programs.
Scholarships and two-way exchanges are expected to expand opportunities for students from both countries to study and gain international experience
Alongside academic cooperation, both sides agreed to explore the development of scholarship opportunities and two-way exchange programs, expanding opportunities for Vietnamese and Cuban students to study and gain international experience.
