HUTECH and CETT connect strengths in service-related fields

The meeting between Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) and CETT Barcelona School of Tourism, Hospitality and Gastronomy on September 17 opened up prospects for developing joint programs, academic exchanges, and international learning experiences for students in service-related fields.

Welcoming the CETT delegation, Dr. Ly Thien Trang, Vice President of HUTECH, expressed her hope that the meeting would build on the recent discussions with the University of Barcelona and create further opportunities for cooperation with Spanish partners that share areas of strength with HUTECH.

During the meeting, HUTECH representatives provided an overview of the University’s capabilities in education, research, and international cooperation. Notably, HUTECH is currently ranked in the Top 151 to 175 worldwide for Hospitality and Leisure Management in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, reflecting its academic strengths and commitment to practice-oriented education and international integration.
Representatives of the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management also shared information about its academic programs, practical training facilities, and internationalization strategy. Established in 2014 on the foundation of more than 20 years of experience in service-related education at HUTECH, the Faculty currently offers programs in Tourism, Hospitality Management, and Event Management.

Representing CETT, Dr. David Peguero Manzanares, Director of Corporate Development and Partnerships, introduced CETT’s specialized education model in Tourism, Hospitality, and Gastronomy. With more than 55 years of experience, CETT offers a diverse range of vocational, undergraduate, and postgraduate programs, as well as international short-term courses. Its educational model emphasizes the integration of academic knowledge with industry engagement and the practical demands of the service sector.

Building on their respective strengths, the two institutions focused their discussions on the possibility of developing joint programs based on the compatibility of their curricula and learning outcomes. Short-term study programs were also explored as a way to provide students with exposure to an international education environment, strengthen their professional competencies, and gain practical experience in service-related fields.
Opportunities for student, faculty, and expert exchanges, as well as research collaboration, were also discussed. These initiatives could foster a multicultural academic environment, facilitate the exchange of professional expertise, and support research addressing the evolving needs of the global service sector.

The delegation visited the Restaurant Training Center, Hotel Simulation Center, Training Kitchen, Bartender Training Area, and other training facilities of the Faculty
The meeting laid the groundwork for HUTECH and CETT to gradually develop concrete cooperation programs
Following the meeting, HUTECH and CETT will conduct a curriculum mapping exercise. The results will provide a basis for identifying suitable areas of collaboration, selecting appropriate implementation models, and gradually developing concrete cooperation programs.
