HUTECH representative gains international insights into global citizenship education

From September 8 to 10, Mr. Vo Quoc Dai, Vice Dean of the Faculty of English Language at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH), participated in the Sub-Regional Workshop on Global Citizenship Education (GCED), themed “Building Pathways to Peace through GCED in Southeast Asia,” in Ho Chi Minh City.
The workshop was jointly organized by the Asia Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding under the auspices of UNESCO (APCEIU) and the SEAMEO Regional Training Center in Vietnam (SEAMEO RETRAC), bringing together education administrators, experts, lecturers, and representatives of organizations from across Southeast Asia.

Over the three days, Mr. Vo Quoc Dai and other participants explored the Southeast Asian education landscape, key concepts and principles of GCED, the 2023 UNESCO Recommendation, and the Road Map for Asia Pacific. These topics provided broader perspectives on a systematic approach to global citizenship education and its relevance to the evolving demands of education in an increasingly interconnected world.

The thematic sessions connected GCED with pressing issues such as empowering learners to use artificial intelligence ethically, climate change and disaster response, conflict transformation, and reconciliation. Through these discussions, the HUTECH representative gained further insights into the role of education in fostering critical thinking, a sense of responsibility, and learners’ ability to adapt to societal change.

The workshop also introduced practices related to curriculum development, teaching approaches, teacher and education personnel development, governance, accountability, and partnerships. Participants also took part in experiential learning activities, developed action plans, presented their ideas, received feedback, and refined approaches suited to their respective educational contexts.
The workshop contributed to advancing global citizenship education and strengthening educational connections across the region
Through the workshop, Mr. Vo Quoc Dai had opportunities to engage and exchange ideas with Ministry of Education officials, policymakers, curriculum specialists, teacher educators, teachers, and representatives of civil society organizations across the region. These connections help expand professional networks while creating further opportunities for HUTECH to gain insights from diverse educational experiences and practices across Southeast Asia.
